This external building project involved the construction of a new retaining wall together with a complete garden fencing system.

The aim was to support and define the raised garden area, improve the boundary of the property and create a cleaner, more secure and better organised outdoor space.

1. Existing Boundary & Ground Conditions

The project required careful consideration of the existing garden level, driveway and surrounding boundary.

The retaining wall needed to provide a strong separation between the raised garden area and the lower external surface while also creating a neat finished edge around the property.

2. Retaining Wall Construction

A new brick retaining wall was constructed to support the higher garden level and create a permanent boundary between the landscaped area and the driveway.

The wall was built with close attention to alignment, level and brickwork finish.

Its purpose was not only structural, but also visual, helping create a cleaner and more defined edge to the garden.

3. Ground Level & Drainage Details

The finished wall was designed around the existing ground levels and external surfaces.

Drainage openings were incorporated into the lower section of the wall where required, helping manage water behind the retained ground.

The surrounding area was then prepared and left with a clean transition between the wall, driveway and garden.

4. Garden Fence Installation

A new timber garden fence was installed as part of the same external works.

The fencing system used timber panels supported by concrete posts and concrete gravel boards, creating a durable boundary with the timber raised above direct ground contact.

This combination provides a practical solution for residential gardens where long-term durability and ease of maintenance are important.

5. Boundary Integration

Particular attention was given to how the new fence connected with the existing walls, driveway and neighbouring boundary.

The posts and panels were positioned to create a continuous line while allowing the new fencing to work with the existing layout of the property.

6. A Combined External Solution

Combining the retaining wall and fencing within the same project created a more complete result than treating the two elements separately.

The retaining wall manages the change in ground level, while the fencing provides privacy, security and a clearly defined boundary.
